‘Vessel’ is from an aborted 2019 project titled ‘Cabinets of Dubious Remedies (for Far-Fetched Afflictions and Doubtful Circumstances)’ that was to be a critical, yet humorous tongue-in-cheek examination of the current first-world desire for easy, immediate and often foolish 'remedies' to the age-old hopes, challenges and heartaches commonly experienced by mankind throughout history.
However, shortly after embarking on the project, the Covid 19 pandemic, as we all know, turned life inside out worldwide in a harsh and considerably less than humorous, or tongue in cheek fashion. As a consequence, I no longer had the motivation to create works critical of a society floundering to maintain mental, physical and emotional stability amid this new and frightening situation. My sense of confusion, compassion and fellow-feeling was triggered, along with anger and indignation caused by the rage-filled, unreasonable responses by many in response to the proposed preventative health measures.
